Warburton to Melbourne – Triumph, Punctures, and Chloe’s Charm
The grand finale of the Old Legs Tour 2025 dawned with splendid weather and a headwind that whispered its own challenge. Mt Evelyn was more than just a landmark—it was an adventure in itself, with a clever reroute along the lower paths that everyone admired. The ride through Lilydale marked the shift from peaceful countryside to bustling city vibes, alongside some hills that made Johno start questioning Macca’s navigation skills. Yet, even he had to admit the route artfully meandered through leafy suburban trails, steering clear of the noisy main roads.
Johno’s day took an unexpected twist with a tyre puncture that became more of a comedy show than a crisis. After the first tube refused to settle, Macca’s unconventional advice to pump it up to 50 PSI worked wonders, rounding the tyre just as the other riders scrambled for safety from the bouncing wheel. Classic Old Legs drama!

Tradition held firm as the oldest rider, Alan, rode into the finish line at the front and took on navigation duties. Naturally, Howie wasn’t shy about putting Alan’s directions to the test, sparking a brief but lively split in the group. Turns out Alan had it right all along—apologies were floated, but were they fully accepted? The jury’s out! The sight of Nicky and Tony Passaportis waving the Zimbabwean flag at the Melbourne Railway Station brought a heartwarming welcome to the weary band.

No post-ride celebration is complete without a stop at Melbourne’s iconic Young and Jackson pub, known equally for its cold pints and the famously captivating painting of Chloe.

Finally, after securing well-deserved accommodation, the riders could rest knowing they conquered 91 km and 540 meters of climbing in style.
Cheers to the Old Legs Tour 2025—may the memories ride on!
