Elderly In Zimbabwe Struggling With Medical and Cost of Living

Elderly in Zimbabwe Struggling

The Msasas had their new leaves, and the bush was looking glorious and awash with colour in Manicaland.

Sadly, the elderly are not doing so well and struggling with ill health and the cost of living.

Charlotte W

Charlotte had a stroke a week ago, leaving her paralyzed on her right-hand side. She has spent a week in the hospital but needs to move as soon as possible because the bills are mounting and her medical aid is not paying for full board.  We have arranged for her to go to one of the frail care homes, where she will get 24-hour nursing.

Janine A

Janine remains frail. Her daughter, Gill took her to have her ears tested and aids fitted as instructed by us. Gill said this has made a world of difference to her life as Gill and her brother can have long conversations with their Mother now which has made the home a happier place.  The family was very grateful to Zane for covering this cost.

Mary V

Mary and her husband have moved from out of town to a cottage their granddaughter renovated in her back garden. Mr V’s dementia was getting worse, and she was struggling to cope with him on her own. They have settled well but she is missing her friends – she was so grateful for her food box – she says it greatly helps her.

Pinkie J

Pinkie has run out of money. She is in pain and walks with the aid of a stick as she requires a hip and double knee replacement. Her late husband’s family assisted her by paying for her medication and living expenses, but still, she can no longer afford her rent, making her tearful and anxious.
