Update on ZANE pensioners support

The elderly are so very grateful for the support that our ZANE teams provide. ZANE are their lifeline in a world that is getting harder to cope with in their older years.

Mrs B

I completed Mrs B’s aid renewal with her daughter, Alice. Mrs. B is now virtually bed ridden, leaving her bed on rare occasions to sit on her veranda in the warm sun. Zimbabwe has experienced a very cold and long winter, which has affected our aged patients.

Mrs. B is slowly slipping into dementia, some days not remembering her daughter’s name. She continues to have 24 hour nursing which has marginally increased in cost but is essential – Alice has to manage most of the cost but the assistance she receives goes a long way to help.

Stuart M

Stuart M’s situation continues to deteriorate, although he remembered my name, he was not sure what day or time it was. This gentle giant is fading away, eating very little but still cheerful. His wife is also struggling with her health and obviously very worried about her husband.

Furthermore, to add to the couple’s worries, Nat West UK are closing all Zimbabwean accounts in February next year. Her tiny British pension gets deposited every month into this account and she is worried about how she will be able to access it after that time. We will help them as best we can through these difficult days.

Food Donation

I would just like to mention that I collected a variety of dried foods from a lady who recently celebrated her 70th birthday and asked for no presents, but rather donations of food for the aged.

This is a very real way that ordinary Zimbabweans are trying to do their bit to support the elderly folk who are dependent on ZANE and we are hugely grateful.
