The updates out of Zimbabwe serve as a poignant reminder of the hardships our elderly folk face, and the constant effort required to stretch our budget to meet their needs. We are entirely carried by the compassion of donors like you. As you read through the reports below, please know that every dollar contributed goes directly to the care of these precious seniors, ensuring they are not left entirely alone in their declining years.
Cathy P
Cathy P (77) was referred to us by her daughter, who has requested assistance on her behalf. Cathy currently resides in a small cottage attached to her daughter’s home, where she is supported by her daughter who has recently gone through a difficult divorce and is herself facing restricted income.
Cathy suffers from severe COPD and is dependent on continuous oxygen (24 hours a day). She is on substantial medication, with monthly costs amounting to approximately $550 and unfortunately does not have medical aid. In addition, Cathy requires full-time care and is supported by two carers working on a seven-day rotational basis.
Financially, Cathy is in a very vulnerable position. She receives a small pension of $60 per month, which is insufficient to meet her needs. While another daughter based outside Zimbabwe provides occasional financial assistance, this support is inconsistent and cannot be relied upon monthly.
This is a very complex case as we do not have the means to offer the level of care that Cathy requires. However, at the next team meeting we will see what ways we might be able to support this vulnerable mother and daughter.
