When I read the reports from Zimbabwe, I am always blown away by the thing that emerges most prominently through the words, and this is the depth of the relationship between the wonderful ZANE carers and the people they care for.
It is staggering to know that every single beneficiary who receives help from ZANE is known personally by the carers and is visited, not only to drop off life-saving medicines, food, and money, but to spend time making sure that each person knows that they are loved.
Here are a few such cases as described by one of the ZANE carers:
David and Jill F
We support David by funding a therapist to help him regain mobility, and, after more than a year, he has recently begun to show significant progress. He is now able to get out of bed and sit in a chair, which is a major step forward.
David is still unable to speak, but his feeding tube has now been moved from his nose to his stomach, which is proving to be more effective, although he remains extremely thin.
Jill continues to work tirelessly to prepare nutritious meals that must be finely liquidised for feeding through the tube every four hours. I hope that we may be able to provide additional support to David and Jill, enabling him to once again experience small outings and some relief from being confined to his room.
Hetty L.
Hetty is more settled since the passing of her husband. She is considering downsizing to a smaller flat, which would ease her financial burden and be more manageable for her going forward.
She is also experiencing considerable difficulty with her hearing, and I have arranged an appointment for later this month to have her ears and hearing aid assessed.
