Reports coming out of Zimbabwe are showing yet again how difficult things continue to be for the old and vulnerable. With the situation in the country compounded by the drought and high prices, the need for help has never been greater.

Reports On Our Beneficiaries
Nita
We visited and assessed Nita in her own home. She had been referred by a friend saying she is struggling financially, is riddled with arthritis and urgently needs a knee and a hip replacement. She is very thin and comes across as unhappy and helpless having made no plans for her future in any way at all since she stopped working 4 years ago.
She was divorced at least 20 years ago and half owns the house she lives in; the other half is owned by her ex-common law husband who lives in a cottage on the same property. We will discuss her situation in our next staff meeting and I think we will be able to get help from the Old Legs Tour team for the surgeries she needs. Once we have sorted out her pain, we can hopefully help her deal with the rest of her problems.
Jilly and Barbara
At one of the local care homes I visited Jilly and Barbara – they have been worried about not seeing me while I was away, so when I saw Jilly, she was a little stern with me! This always impresses upon me how important we all are to our elderly recipients.
Barbara is fine but is still having trouble with her hearing. The administrator of the complex, has had a stroke so cannot work for a while. The residents are anxious about this and missing her presence a lot. I have promised to increase our visits while this situation persists.
Val
We visited Val in her own home. Val is not a happy person and has never recovered from the death of her husband several years ago. She relies on other elderly people to do all her chores for her such as shopping, visits to the doctor, paying her bills.
We have spent so much time (and different methods) trying to help her shift her mind-set to no avail and now it seems certain she is not going to change. However, we don’t give up on her.
